Belly Stripper Cream

While looking for new and interesting things on what we refer to as the world wide web, I bumped into a very promising beauty product called Belly Stripper. It's a cream made of natural and organic elements that helps reduce fat while you are sleeping. Looks very interesting, click here to learn more about it! http://www.bellyslimmer.com/

Summer of the Corset Belts!

Well, I finally got the chance to start sewing again . . . and I went wild! With the heat of summer coming on, I decided to make myself a short-sleeved peasant blouse and perhaps another corset belt to match. What I ended up with was one shirt . . . and NINE corsets! These belts are absolutely irresistible. So many colors, so many combinations, so many possibilities! I also did something a little different in my belt design. By adjusting the pattern a little, I was able to create corset lacing in the back as well as in the front. Before this, the back looked kind of boring, but now it is SO cute! (And more adjustable too.)

I'll probably list them on Etsy (Well . . . some of them. I've already fallen in love with several!)

Rear View (Not as in the Alfred Hitchcock movie!)
My ever-vigil doggie scans the horizon, searching for any sign of danger. (While simultaneously making my work very difficult!)

Haircut!

Today I decided to cut my own hair! I've heard of so many people doing it that I finally had to try it. I found a lot of really good videos on Youtube. Some of the best DIY haircut videos involved using a gadget called the CreaClip to pull all the hair forward. Then when you cut it that position, it naturally layers your hair. Since we didn't have a CreaClip on hand, we decided to try to make our own. It actually worked out very well and (with a little help from my mom) I ended up with a very professional looking haircut!

This is me in my Bunk Room T-Shirt after our march in the 4th of July parade. The Bunk Room is a magazine I write for which is written entirely by kids.

To be perfectly honest, I was amazed how easy it was to cut my own hair. I'm really happy with the way it came out and so glad I gave it a try!

The Book Purse - A Book Lovers Dream Come True!

Today  I decided to make a book purse. As an avid book worm, I was enchanted with the idea of combining my love of books with my love of fashion to create a super cool accessory. I first espied said item on Etsy.com. The sleek, blue, leatherbound tome seemed to cry out to me. And to top it all off, the purse just happened to be made out of "The Chronicles of Narnia" (which happens to be one of my favorite series).

I decided at that moment I must learn how to make my own (as I've said before I love books). So I did some searches on the net and found several DIY's on instructables.com.

P.S. If you want one of these but don't feel like making one, go to Esty and search book purses. You'll finds all kinds.

E-textiles ~ The Fabric of the Future?

Hey everyone! Today I discovered something called E-textiles. It's a process by which clothing and electronics are combined. Here's a really cool example of it.

Don't you just love the way it glows! I started looking around on how to make your own e-textiles and there are some pretty good articles on instructables.com. This looks like a promising fashion trend. I can't wait to see wear it goes!

Steampunk Tails!

Hey everyone! I'm back from a week long media fast. I'm feeling very refreshed and ready to start posting again. Here's my Steampunk jacket, one of of my earliest attempts at "daringly modest" fashion, and also my very first solo sewing project.

The Victorian styled tails were a bit of a challenge to sew. For the most part the outfit looks pretty good, but I did run into some unexpected difficulties. You see, I have broad shoulders and since this was one of my first projects, I didn't take account of that when I cut out the pieces. The shoulders ended up being too tight for me. (LOL! : )

Pirates Ahoy!

Ahoy there mateys and welcome to Daringly Modest!

Of all the outfits I've created, I'd have to say this is one of my favorites. The light beige peasant blouse combined with the brown corset belt is fun to wear and a flattering look. (Even on my not-so-skinny days it still looks good!) So whether I'm in the mood to board ship, or just want to go to the mall, this outfit is good to go!

The Great T-Shirt Experiment!

Yesterday, while surfing the web, I ran into a lot of really cool arts and crafts videos on Youtube. So I thought I would give some of them a try!  The results - a renaissance styled t-shirt corset!

I took an old t-shirt that was too big on me and in just over a half an hour I was done. It came out really well. I'm so happy!

If you'd like to make your own renaissance t-shirt, here's a brief tutorial on how to do it!

First, get an old t-shirt and cut off the collar, sleeves, and bottom edge. (See below) Keep the sleeves, you'll need them later. Be careful not to cut too much off the collar, otherwise the shirt may fall off you're shoulders. To get a nice finish stretch everything after you cut it.

Then cut a a section out of the front of you're t-shirt. This is where your laces will go. To be perfectly honest, I just kind of guessed at about how much I wanted to take off. The t-shirt was pretty big on me so I took off a few inches.

Don't worry, almost done! This is what I love about t-shirt corsets. You don't need to put in grommets or anything, all you have to to is cut some holes which a pair of scissors. About an inch a way from the edge should do, but be sure not to cut the hole too big because the shirt will stretch. Sorry, my picture's a little fuzzy.

Take one of sleeves you discarded, and cut around and around the edge until you have a nice, long string. (Be sure to stretch it!) Then lace it up. That's all there is to it!

I hope you liked my little "how to" and I'd love to see what you come up with!

Attack of the Scarves!

Hello everyone!

Today I'm working on setting up an Etsy store! I do a LOT of arts and crafts (sewing, jewelry-making, sculpting, crocheting, etc.) and many of people have told me that I should start my own store.

I've been playing with the idea for a while, but things finally came to a head when I opened a closet door . . . and was attacked by closet full of scarves! After such a harrowing experience, I decided it was time I started selling off some of my creations.

So if you're in the market for really fun scarves (and other fun clothing items) be sure to look up DaringlyModest on Esty. I should have the store up by tomorrow and I'd love to see you there!

Have a nice day!

Sherlock Holmes Meets Chic Fashion!

A couple of weeks ago (as I was finishing up a Sherlock Homles movie marathon) I was suddenly and inexplicably filled with the desire to create my own version of the sleuth's famous attire. With very little work I soon had my own chic Holmesean hat and cloak.

I found that the deer stalker hat, combined with a short cape (in tweed of course) and a cute little magnifying glass necklace made for a really fun outfit!

I've received quite a few compliments on this number!

Writers Note: Wear with caution! Such an outfit could seriously jeopardize your safety as you could be mistaken for the great sleuth himself.

The Camera Mystery

Hello, Everyone! Welcome to Daringly Modest. I haven't gotten a chance to upload any more fashion pictures. My camera died suddenly and mysteriously. I personally suspect foul play. (Then again maybe I shouldn't have been watching English murder mysteries right before bed!)

Coming Soon to Daringly Modest - Sherlock Holmes Meets Chic Fashion!

Today, for my morning devotional I watched a really good podcast by Terri Savelle Foy called "Letting Go of the Past". It was a really great reminder to me of how easily we can let past hurts affect our present. I like Terri's style, her messages always encourage me. (Not to mention she has great fashion sense)!

Well that's all for now! Thanks for reading and have a smiley day!

The Corset - A Fun Way to Bring a Bit of Old World Charm into Your Wardrobe!

This is my attempt at taking a costume I used in the Lady of the Lakes Renaissance Faire and restyling it into something I could use in my everyday wardrobe.

At first I wasn't sure if it would work, but I really like it.  I put a lot of work into the outfit (the grommets were really hard to put in) and I was so glad I didn't have to put it away till the next Renaissance Faire.
