Who I am . . .
My name is Maria Chester and I am a 19 year old homeschool graduate.
I'm a born again daughter of the King and it is one of my greatest desires that everything I say, do, think, and write will bring glory to Him. I have a passion for writing and hope to become a writer/journalist.
I enjoy watching old black and white movies late into the night, and you will usually find me with my nose in a good book.
. . . And how I got started
A couple of years ago I went to an event that changed the way I looked at fashion. Up to that point I didn't think I had any fashion sense. I didn't go crazy over the latest styles because I found most of them to be too uncomfortable and way too revealing.
Oops . . . getting off topic here!
Last year when I heard my local school district was holding a renaissance faire, I thought that it would be fun to sew my own medieval outfit and attend the faire in costume. I had never sewn anything before in my life, but I found that I had a knack for it, and with a little help from my Mom I created my very first outfit.
As I was getting ready to put my costume away, I decided on a whim to see what my renaissance top would look like if I wore it with a pair of jeans. (I had put a lot of work into it and I didn't want to put it away until the next faire!) To my surprise it looked pretty good, and as I began wearing my new outfit around town, I received quite a few compliments!
This got me thinking about how such an old fashion style could be revamped into something really cute and modern. I began looking for other period clothing which with a little tweaking could be transformed into a whole new creation. How many other outfits could I create using elements from period costumes I wondered?
